Billy Elliot and Shrek the Musical led the list of nominees for the 2009 Outer Critics Circle Awards, receiving 10 nominations each. The nominations were announced on April 20 at the Algonquin Hotel by Broadway stars Rebecca Luker Mary Poppins and Danny Burstein South Pacific.
The Outer Critics Circle Awards are bestowed by an association whose members are affiliated with more than 90 publications and broadcasting outlets. Winners will be announced on May 11, and the 2009 awards ceremony will be held on May 21 at Sardi’s. The nomination announcement noted that the play Dividing the Estate and the musical Next to Normal were considered last season in their off-Broadway productions. A complete list of nominees follows:
